S&S® 124" Hot Set Up Kit® For 1999-Up Big Twins!
Now includes S&S high performance Tappets!
The S&S 124" Hot Set Up Kit allows owners of 1999-up Harley-Davidson® motorcycles to upgrade their stock 88" or 96" engines to 124" using the stock crankcases. There are a several advantages to installing this kit as opposed to installing a complete 124" S&S engine. The first advantage is that you don’t have to pay for a complete engine! Many of the stock engine components such as the crankcases, oil pump and cam cover are reused, saving hundreds of dollars. Also, S&S does not offer complete engines to replace Twin Cam 88B™ engines, or engines for 2006 Dyna® or any 2007-up models. Another consideration is that since the stock crankcases are used, the engine will retain the original serial numbers. This could mean less hassle with registration and insurance.
Available In Three Versions
Three versions of the 124" Hot Set Up Kit are available. The first, which is highly recommended, features S&S 91cc Super Stock® cylinder heads and a compression ratio of 10.8:1. This kit will provide the best performance and easy starting thanks to the S&S electric compression releases. The second type has a flat topped piston and is intended for use with existing S&S 89cc chamber cylinder eads and yields a compression ratio of 11:1. This kit does not include S&S compression releases, but nearly all S&S 89cc heads are machined to accept them. The third version contains a dished piston designed to provide a 10.8:1 compression ratio with stock cylinder heads. While this kit costs less, the stock cylinder heads will not provide the same level of performance, and starting will be harder due to the lack of compression releases.

Choose The Finish
Kits are available in silver powdercoat or black powdercoat finish, and aside from cylinder heads, compression releases, and rocker boxes, all include the following parts: S&S 41⁄8" bore cylinders and pistons, an S&S 45⁄8" stroke flywheel assembly, a set of S&S 640 gear drive cams, tappets, S&S pushrods, roller rocker arms, and all required hardware, gaskets and instructions.
Main Bearing Note
S&S flywheel assemblies for 1999-up big twin engines are designed for use with Timken® style sprocket shaft bearings. They will fit directly in stock Harley-Davidson 1999-’02 crankcases and in all S&S crankcases for Twin Cam 88® engines with no modifications.
S&S does not produce a set of flywheels that is a direct replacement for the 2003 and later big twin engines. Stock 2003 and later engines use the same roller type bearing for the sprocket shaft that is used on the pinion shaft. However, S&S flywheels may be used in 2003 and later engines with the installation of the Harley-Davidson® bearing kit #24004-03A. These crankcases use a roller type bearing for the sprocket shaft. Verify that the bearing kit contains the 24604-00D or 24607-07 sprocket shaft bearing. Do not use a 24604-00, 24604-00A, 24604-00B or 24604-00C bearing.
